Fighting Hunger with A Mouse PDF  | print |  email

Seasons greetings to all. Below are several Websites that are dedicated to fighting hunger, which remains Ice Bowl's primary charitable mission. For most of them, you click on a link and a donation is made. The freerice.com site is different in that you can play a vocabulary game while feeding hungry people. Cheers and enjoy.

Norwegian Ice Bowl Postage Stamps: A Unique Fundraiser PDF  | print |  email

Roar Gjøsæter, the tournament director for the Bergen, Norway Ice Bowl has come up with a unique fundraising idea. Working with the Norwegian Post Office, Roar is now selling Ice Bowl postage stamps. While these are of obvious interest to any disc golfing philatelist, Roar has agreed to ship these stamps to any interested disc golfer. All proceeds, of course, got to Roar's charity—a children's hospital. For more information, contact him at roar AT gjoseter.no.

Late Reporting Event Bumps 2007 Money Total Over $200K PDF  | print |  email

We have recently received  the results and verification that the Ice Bowl affiliate event, the Lions Club Charity Classic in Athens, Alabama, raised $2,800 for the Boys and Girls Club. This bumps the total of all money raised for Ice Bowl 2007 to $200,975. There are still a handful of events that didn't report and we are continuing our efforts to include them, but exceeding the $200K mark is a significant milestone. Congratulations to all the TDs and everyone else involved at the 202 events who made this number possible.

Winter Beckons: The Ice Bowls Are Coming PDF  | print |  email

Here in Kansas City at Ice Bowl World Headquarters today (11-19), we experienced some lovely Indian summer weather  with temps in the mid-70s. Of course, it's not going to last, and the forecast  for Thanksgiving is a  low of 20° and a high of 35°. That's Ice Bowl weather!

Speaking of which, registrations are coming in at a nice pace and include several communities that will be holding their first Ice Bowls in 2008. Lots of long running Ice Bowls haven't been heard from yet, but I'm sure that they will be keeping the tradition going in their towns.

This year's collective goal is to raise $225K, which is $27K more than was raised last year. Informal goals are to have over 210 (201 in 2007) events  and 10,000 participants (nearly 9,000 in 2007) in all 50  (45 in 2007) states, every Canadian province (7 in 2007) , and more overseas countries (only 2 this year)

If there's not an Ice Bowl scheduled in your town, and you would  like to learn more about how to make it happen, please  email me at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . The idea is to have fun while raising money and/or food for a local charity. The "About Ice Bowl"  link here has more information.

Stay warm and Happy Thanksgiving.
